Sasha Kupriyanov

b. 1999

Sasha Kupriyanov was born in Nikolsk, Penza Oblast, in 1999. He graduated from the Valery Nistratov School of Contemporary Documentary Photography (2023) and took part in the Present Perfect Studio residency (Winzavod Center for Contemporary Art, Moscow, 2024).
Sasha works with an original technique of hand-printing on textiles, which he calls “phototransposition.” The term itself references documentary photography, where his artistic practice began. Alongside shooting processes, his work evolved to include the collection of visual content from cinema, the internet, and pop culture, as well as experiments with printing on various media, ultimately leading him to choose plant-fiber fabrics. Sasha’s works from 2023–2026 are created at the intersection of photography as a technical foundation and painting in terms of aesthetic qualities.
Sasha’s works are held in the private collection of Sergey Limonov.
He lives and works in Moscow.
